EHR/EMR Meaningful Use

Are you missing out on incentive money?

Are you ready for the Stage 1 deadline?

On June 16, 2009 the U.S. Department for Health & Human Services (HHS) started to lay the foundation that would eventually lead to a health care remodel.

Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act), the design and implementation of health information technology (HIT) which would later give birth to The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HiTECH) Act, provided the HHS with the authority to establish programs to improve health care quality, safety, and efficiency through the promotion of electronic health records and private and secure electronic health information exchange.

Under HiTECH, eligible health care professionals and hospitals can qualify for Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments when they adopt certified Electronic Health Records (EHR) technology and use it to achieve specified objectives.

In order to achieve these incentive payments, providers must start implementing EHR software and meet deadlines that have been set by the HHS. The 2012 deadline is approaching (Oct. 3) to start your 90 day reporting period so there is still time to get started where providers will be eligable to receive up to $44,000 per provider in incentive payments!
